In March of 1993, we opened the doors of our 1000-square-foot shop with high hopes and 5000 books displayed sparsely around shelves that had been built for growth. Now we have 25,000 books tightly crammed onto the shelves in 1750 square feet of selling space, plus more than 500 music CDs, several thousand out-of-the-ordinary greeting cards, and a selection of mostly book-related sidelines. We've gone from a staff of two (the two of us who own the shop) to a staff of fourteen. And now, after all these years, we've crawled into the 21st century with a computerized inventory system and a website.
